Six Clearings for Hank Williams,

1973

Christopher Wilmarth, American, 1943–1987
x1989-83
The New York-based sculptor Christopher Wilmarth enjoyed considerable success in his short career with his lyrical combinations of steel and glass. In the 1970s, when many important abstract artists favored a cerebral, conceptual approach to fabrication and finish, Wilmarth explored a personalized approach to his materials in minimalist works that were more poetically evocative than explicitly concrete. This progression of six small squares made up of layers of tracing paper stapled together was later translated into a wall relief fabricated from multiple sheets of etched glass in tribute to the legendary country music star Hank Williams.
