Said to have acquired in Rhages (RAYY), Iran, in the early 1900s, by Emile Vignier; bequeathed to his niece Marianne Densmore, who sold it to Guy Weill Goudchaux in 1964-65. He sold it to an American dealer in 1985-86, from whom it passed to James Freeman, Class of 1965, from whom the museum purchased it.
