Red Mountain,

2015

Minjung Kim, born 1962, Gwangju, South Korea; active South Korea, Italy, France, and United States
2019-239
Resembling mountains fading into a distant haze, the shapes seen here were formed by the artist’s technique of creating a dense saturation of ink along the upper edge of each layer of color wash. The interaction between the wash and the texture of the mulberry paper, together with each layer’s subtle variations in tone, creates the illusion of high-relief forms on a flat surface.
