Chalice

y1949-125
A chalice is used to hold the Eucharistic wine in communion, as the Holy Grail was believed to hold the wine at the Last Supper of Jesus and his disciples. Given their importance in the ritual of the Mass, chalices were richly decorated. The medallions here are made of translucent enamel, a complex process that allows for a play of light catching enamel and precious metal.
